Kyoto: You can be “SAMURAI!”

Samurai Kenbu is a new experience in Kyoto. What is samurai kenbu? It’s a traditional Japanese stage performance art which utilizes Japanese sword and fan while expressing the poems that were mostly written by samurai.

In feudal times, samurais performed it to give themselves courage or to achieve mental concentration before the battle. Samurai’s spirits, values and philosophy are reflected a lot in kenbu.

Through the experience, you can learn basic techniques of handling a Japanese sword such as slashing with it, samurai’s actions and enjoy dressing up traditional samurai costume.

Dojo (training place) locates in the center of Kyoto city. We can find other dojos in Tokyo and other parts of Japan as well.
