Kyoto: Bizarre demon street “TAISHOGUN SHOPPING STREET”
Taishogun Shopping Street is know as Yokai (demon) street, it’s 400 meters long.
Yokai street is named after one of the Japanese folk about yokai, hyakkiyagyo, which literally means “nigh procession of one hundred demons”.
In the folk, it’s said that the souls of abandoned tools became demons and wandered the area to curse humans for abandoning them. Taishogun Shopping Street’re using the folk to revitalize the community. On the street, each shop has its own demon. |
